Layer 2 operation keeps the design lean - MAC-table forwarding and VLANs, without routing overhead. It also adds a fixed-port design that keeps configuration simple. With 1 (MB) of onboard flash, firmware and configuration backups don't depend on a remote server. On the compatibility side, it's desktop-friendly, in a 1U footprint, a 19-inch rack fit, takes ac input power, and uses standard front-to-back airflow to match common data-center airflow layouts.
