It's built for storage teams, not general LAN duty: connecting servers and disk arrays over a Fibre Channel fabric where frame loss isn't acceptable. Keep your Ethernet switches for everything else. Port-wise, it offers 24 total network ports, laid out as 12xSFP+,Active Ports16 Gigabit Ethernet and 12x16 Gigabit EthernetSFP+,Non Active, topping out at 16Gb Fibre Channel per port. On top of that, it has SFP+ expansion for uplinks. Configuration persists in onboard memory through reboots and power cycles, no separate storage needed. Being a Fibre Channel switch, it moves SAN traffic at 16Gb Fibre Channel with the low latency storage fabrics need. Physically, it's rack-mount, in a 1U footprint, rack-friendly, drawing ac input power and exhausting air standard front-to-back airflow, so it fits cleanly next to existing gear.
