- HP 5500 5500-24G EI (JD377-61001) is the switch IT teams supporting network cores and aggregation layers feeding busy server racks often turn to when they need something that just works. This model fits data center and server-room deployments: virtualization hosts, NAS and SAN backbones, render farms and AI/ML training nodes that move large volumes of data between servers. It also works well as an aggregation switch feeding traffic up from access-layer switches. Wiring is handled by 30 total network ports, laid out as 24xGigabit EthernetRJ-45 and 4xGigabit EthernetSFP (mini-GBIC),Shared,Uplink and 2xExpansion Module, topping out at Gigabit (1GbE) per port. It rounds this out with SFP (mini-GBIC),Expansion Module expansion for uplinks and stacking so multiple units run as one logical switch. Onboard flash storage of 32 (MB) keeps firmware and config backups local to the switch. It can inspect transport-layer information for smarter forwarding and QoS decisions, which is what Layer 4 support is about. On the compatibility side, it's rack-mount, in a 1U footprint, a 19-inch rack fit, takes ac input power, and uses standard front-to-back airflow to match common data-center airflow layouts.
