As a Layer 2 switch, it focuses on fast MAC-address forwarding and VLAN segmentation rather than routing. It also adds a fixed-port design that keeps configuration simple. With 8 (MB) of onboard flash, firmware and configuration backups don't depend on a remote server. Physically, it's desktop-friendly, in a 1U footprint, rack-friendly, drawing ac input power and exhausting air standard front-to-back airflow, so it fits cleanly next to existing gear.
