  • HP OfficeConnect 1420-8G (JH329A#ACC) is worth a close look if you're setting up or upgrading a network for workgroups and small offices adding extra wired ports without extra configuration. It's aimed at home offices, small businesses and workgroups that want extra reliable ports without the complexity of VLANs or CLI configuration - plug it in and it works. Port-wise, it offers 8 total network ports, laid out as 8xGigabit EthernetRJ-45, topping out at Gigabit (1GbE) per port. On top of that, it has a fixed-port design that keeps configuration simple. Firmware and configuration live in onboard non-volatile memory, surviving reboots and power cycles. As a Layer 2 switch, it focuses on fast MAC-address forwarding and VLAN segmentation rather than routing. For installation, it's desktop-friendly, compatible with standard 19-inch racks, runs on ac input power, and moves air standard front-to-back airflow for straightforward rack cooling.
